    Nursery Decorating Dilemma!

Okay, so I’m a mom wich means I’m busy- very busy! My son is 2 1/2 and our little girl is almost three months old. Being in the fashion industry I always see magazines and portfolios and Pinterest boards full of these incredibly fabulous ideas for kids rooms and nurseries and I really wanted that for my kiddos. I wanted them to have rooms that were really fun and inspiring.

The dilemma? I’m not a designer and I have no time so the idea of decorating a roosilas's bedroomm felt completely overwhelming. I love the idea of my kid’s rooms having a theme and great colors, I hate the idea of having to choose a theme and find the great colors. Last year I went on a business trip and while I was away my amazing sisters and mom totally redecorated my son’s room to have a super fun transportation theme complete with linens covered in trucks and motorcycles! Check it out!

So when our little girl arrived I felt like she deserved a room as fun and exciting as her brother’s and this time I wanted to tackle it myself. I started by testing paint colors. There is a lot of psychology behind color- her room was half yellow (which apparently makes babies cry more) and half blue. So I talked with the designers here at work and they agreed that a soft purple is perfect for a little girl’s because it is calming and offers a somewhat neutral pallet for any theme that might be chosen. I decided on Benjamin Moore’s “Lavendar Mist”- what do you think? So in about 6 hours I was able to prime and paint her room- not bad!

For a theme I knew that I wanted to do something with wall decals and our family loves the outdoors so I thought something with animals would be perfect. I found this company, http://www.mywonderfulwalls.com/ and thought their site was terrific so I ordered the Forest Friend package and was soooo thrilled with the product! They shipped quickly and the stickers are even better than they look on the site. It only took about an hour to put the stickers up- I bought one package and there were plenty of stickers to decorate the whole room (I’ll add more photos soon)

With my walls painted, and my stickers applied, all I needed was a shade (of course!). I went with an EcoSmart blackout shade in the color Princess Pink so that her room stays warm in the winter, cool in the summer and dark when I want to sleep in :-).DSC03961

I’m pretty psyched with how it came out and by just concentrating on the wall color and decals it didn’t take too much of my time! Next on my list to tackle is some top treatments in my living room and although this was a fun DIY exercise I’m DEFINITELY going to call the experts in for that one!
