Burlington City Arts seized a golden opportunity when they purchased an old warehouse to create a permanent community center for the arts on Pine Street, in the heart of the super arty South End of Burlington; an already thriving creative community in Burlington.
Through an ambitious redevelopment plan, BCA were able to create studios for pottery, printmaking, painting and other arts, as well as classes for children and adults. The makeover would also include a large community room and a sculpture garden along Pine Street.
The space offered plenty of natural light, after the redesign, due to the original high ceilings and the opportunity to add windows of many different sizes which allowed the artists to keep a connection to the outside world that inspires so many of them. However, unwanted glare from the large windows and the variety of activities taking place, offered real challenges to make this space as productive as possible for artists and staff.
The team at Gordon’s met with the BCA Staff to provide a combination of solutions to make the place something special. Using different combinations of light-filtering fabrics for our made in Vermont, EcoSmart Roller Shades, in a variety of colors as well as manual and motorized shades, we helped keep the place an inspiring place to work without being blinded by the light. 5% Fabric was used in the majority of the classrooms and offices, to reduce glare from the passing by cars.
As they continuing developing their space, we are looking forward to shading to their specific needs.
