2024 is winding down, so it’s that magical time for us, to look forward to what the NEW year will bring in home décor!

As we start each year off…with the…..Colors of the Year!

    Pantone’s selection isMocha Mousse

“For 2025, the Pantone Color Institute selects PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort.”courtesy of Pantone

Benjamin Moore’s selection – “Cinnamon Slate

“Embrace the beauty of quietly colorful hues with the Color of the Year 2025, Cinnamon Slate 2113-40. A delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown, this nuanced color brings a smooth familiarity to any design.” – courtesy of Benjamin Moore

    Sherwin Williams “Quietude”

“Fall slowly into this neutral green. For a restful space, inject this cool, light hue with its complex blue-gray undertone.Quietude, finds its power in its transcendent tranquility. A soft sage with a whisper of blue influence, Quietude is an emerging color for enduring design and soothes any space inside or out.” – courtesy of Sherwin Williams

What delicious hues to play with! 2025 home design trends are forecasting a whole lot of fun, with a sense of calm, wellness and hefty dose of  ‘cozy’. Found in millions of Zillow.com real estate listings, they came to the same conclusion: the word “cozy” has increased by 35%!!!!!!

Technology has enabled homeowners to live more sustainably and more affordably, which is a growing priority for prospective buyers,” Amanda Pendleton(Zillow Home Expert)says. Regarding sustainability, designers agree. According to 1stdibs’ annual trend survey, which reached 643 interior designers this year, 43% say their projects are expected to have some sustainability requirement in 2025. “Consumers are becoming more discerning about how long products will last and how they’re made,” says founder of Paris–based firm Uchronia, Julien Sebban.

Technology…yes, yes indeedy. We’ve seen a consistent increase in smart homes, and home automation. Integrated motorized shading is becoming a must-have for all new builds.

    Cozy, Calm and Well-Being.

“Gone are the stuffy living rooms that you only use twice a year. The trend we are seeing for 2025 will be for beautiful but comfortable spaces where you can curl up with a good book or listen to music. And of course, entertain. Our clients want rooms they can enjoy all year round. We love a classic rug underfoot and a big, cozy daybed to create the look.” —Linda Eyles of Linda Eyles Design

    Color Drenching

While there’s a time and place for muted pastels, and serene spaces, but personally, I love seeing rich, jewel-box colors like fantastical forest greens, crimson reds like oxblood/black cherry, the deepest blues and even bodacious blacks. Color drenching goes well beyond that one bold accent wall. It’s a marvelous monochromatic menagerie! This design trend is all about a full-on, single-hue explosion across all surfaces in a room. In addition to the walls and ceilings, many objects, such as window treatments and light fixtures. Get the idea of monotony outta your head. When color drenching a room, many designers opt to play around with the paint’s finish, mixing in both gloss and matte across a variety of textures—such as wood or plaster—to create greater visual interest. These not-so-muted colors are finding their way into interior design again, and one of our favorite ways to apply them is to color-drench a room.
Don’t be scared to go bold in color and application in 2025.

    The Curves keep coming

Just like we saw, in 2024, curved walls, curved furniture…CURVES everywhere!  We saw curved countertops and room trend started to percolate back in 2022. Serpentine sofas are among the most coveted pieces of designers—curvaceousness. Curved sofas have been a growing trend for the last two years, but now they are EVERYWHERE. We’ll be seeing more and more organic shapes, with color drenching, monochromatic palettes. I’m LOVING these curves.

A trend that is STILL trending is…sustainability.

Sustainability has transcended trendiness and thankfully has become a way of life. Great design and significantly reduce negative environmental impacts? That’s a win for everyone.

Choose items made from natural materials, such as bamboo, stone, or recyclable materials. Another option is reclaim ANTIQUES and repurpose. Breathe new life into, an old barn slop sink for your mud room, use that dresser as your new bathroom cabinet- the sky is the limit,  which will add a unique focal point to your home. Imperfections and a history that makes it one-of-a-kind.

Speaking of sustainability….our EcoSmart Roller and EcoSmart Cellular Shades, that are made by us, right here in Vermont (we’ve been doing it for almost 4 decades!!) are all about energy efficiency, and roller fabrics made out of recycled materials. How awesome is that?!

A selection of our Roller fabrics have been tested and certified by the Attachments Energy Rating Council (AERC) for their ability to reduce energy consumption through performance against solar heat in warm climates and their ability to retain heat in cool climates.

Go motorized, and you’ll be saving more energy with your heating/cooling energy consumption. That’s a trend that will NEVER go out of style.
