Home Trends That Will Shape Your House In 2017.

For the past 17 years, Pantone has chosen a color that reflects the current cultural climate. In the following year, the color has historically influenced trends in all facets of design—architecture, interior décor, fashion, & even food.

Most obviously, “environment” today refers to the “go-green” movement—which, while not a revolutionary idea in 2017, has reached a crescendo this year. Pantone has even partnered with Airbnb to create an experience in nature inspired by the color.

“At New York Fashion Week, the designers were explaining how we live in this modern world where technology will always exist, but there’s this need to turn to design to go to the opposite side, to Nature,” Pressman said.

Benjamin Moore’s choice for 2017 “Shadow”bmc_coty_video_01_shadow_desktop“It ebbs and flows with its surroundings, and light brings it to life. Rich, royal amethyst can fade into the soft lilac-grey of distant mountains or morph into lustrous coal. Indulge your mysterious side. Let Shadow set the mood.” —Ellen O’Neill, Creative Director

    Sherwin Williams- “Poised Taupe”sw-img-diy-coty5-17-lp

Sherwin-Williams: The color they anticipate defining 2017 is Poised Taupe SW 6039. It creates a cozy lifestyle and brings a sense of sanctuary into our homes. It diffuses the stresses of the world outside our doors — so much so that we feel restored and in balance when we walk across our threshold.

And after the year we just had, we ALL need a bit of calm.

    Butterflies. Yes, butterflies.b2b5a6aaff15b84dbb7235509f2fb772

Butterflies are increasingly appearing as a buoyant, happy motif in home design and products like these butterfly containers.

A symbol of both grace and optimism, the butterfly is no longer designated to children’s rooms — but rather celebrated in a variety of spaces with sophisticated accents.

Be it preserved under glass, or painted on walls or accent pillows with a butterfly design…let their wings lift us up in 2017!

    Faux Finishes:

Apparently, faux decor isn’t just a thing; it’s a trend homeowners are embracing, according to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal. The WSJ interviewed builders and homeowners who have opted for faux barn wood, marble, and foliage over the actual materials – and it’s fascinating. (not to mention cost friendly for everyone)

    It’s baaaaaaaack…..

“Unlike in the 80s, they aren’t used as border tiles. Instead they will have a natural matte finish and be used as feature walls in bathrooms or for cladding fireplaces,” says Lauren Macer of Sisalla Interior Design.

Warm materials such as terracotta tiles will replace currently popular cool and white tones.

“I think that by avoiding terracotta tiles that are too rustic and keeping with a matte finish, this trend could add character and warmth to interiors again.”

    Cork:

    cork

No no, not the area in Ireland. You heard it here first – cork is making a comeback!!!!!

Not only is cork a stylish material idea that adds warmth and texture to spaces, it’s also ideal for absorbing noise in our increasingly large, open plan homes. (Which is also a trend for 2017.)

“It’s used in coffeetable bases in combination with stone tops, and as solid cork stool or side table,” Macer says. “I predict cork could be used to clad entire walls in the home office and used to pin notes to.”

Upholstered headboards: (Call us! We can help you with this trend!!)308588546c8d4396aa1da10054cc1ad4

Beds will change dramatically in 2017, with upholstered headboards set to replace the timber bed frames currently dominating the market.

“They’ve been a staple in luxury hotel bedrooms and celebrity homes for a while, but now we’re all falling head over heels for the bedhead trend,” says Emma Blomfield. “Whether you opt for the classic model in neutral color with buttons, or a plush one in velvet, a bed headboard is an easy way to update and add instant glamour to a bedroom.”

To go hand and hand with the Terracotta trend….

    Copper:d90d7ab87f5224d28ae8cd71cc3397ad

“As a material, copper is beautiful and will always be in style in some way or another,” says the Nathan + Jac team. “However, the over-saturation of cheap and shiny imitation copper just ends up looking like you’ve tried too hard, and by doing so, you’ve already missed the boat.”

“Warm metals like copper, brass and rose gold will continue to be on trend for autumn/winter 2016, but as we move into summer 2017 you’ll see a shift away from this super polished look,” says Diane Cocksey, Senior Interior Decorator at Freedom.

“I expect you’ll see a more industrial aesthetic, with black steel and burnished metals taking over the home.”
