Interior design trends for 2016
Interior design trends you must know, 2016.
Firstly, the colors of the year!
Pantone named two. WHOA. “Rose Quartz” and “Serenity”.
Also Benjamin Moore named “Simply White”.
Our friends at Vermont Paint Company can hook you RIGHT up!
Bring the Outdoors In:
GREENERY! Plants and herb gardens, succulents, green, green GREEN!
Multi-purpose furniture. What does that mean? Pieces that can be used inside AND out. Natural fabrics, cottons, canvas, and linens.
Which leads us to……
Source Artisan Goods:
Macrame, baskets, woven wondrous goodies. All those things that are tactile, filled with texture and yumminess.
Burlington’s Winter Market. SO much goodness!
Here in Vermont, we are the lucky ones. Our farmer’s markets are not just delish farm edibles, no way, no how. We have SO many talented artisans! Talking face to face with our artisans somehow makes the goods we purchase, all that more special.
Don’t be afraid to mix handmade artisanal crafts with vintage antiques.
Check this idea out; Fabric Wall Art:Attention, all designers: Robert Allen is paper-backing almost all of its textiles for a flat fee, from silks to damasks.
Don’t miss the opportunity to pair a Vermont lambskin pouf and Moroccan rug next to your Target coffee table, for example.
Minerals Are In:
Look for beautiful bowls of pyrite on tables, big chunks of quartz used as display pieces and unpolished semi-precious stones turned into door pulls. While polished geodes attached to lucite bases have been all the rage, minerals are going au natural now.
Shop locally at Tradewinds Imports <–so much wow!
Better sleep:
We ALL need better sleep. (I wrote a whole blog on this topic, alone)
Tiles Are Going Geometric:
Seriously, I don’t know how the above look, could EVER go out of style. Also, decorative backsplashes have been a strong design element for awhile now. Designers are expecting to see consumers gravitating towards more geometric patterns that feature fluid movement.
Check out our neighbors, Best Tile.
Cement and even wood are going to play a significant role in achieving this. I adore the trend of the cement countertops and accents through-out.
Mix Metallics and Metals AND the return of the home office:
The 1950s and 1970s are hot trends in fashion design collections right now, and I couldn’t be happier!
Mid-century Mod with brass, gold and metallic finishes are popular right now. Get ready to embrace some retro bling.
The home office:
The honeymoon period for working on your laptop in bed is officially over.
In 2016, we’re reserving the bedroom for more important things.
A home office, doesn’t have to have bells and whistles. Clean, minimal designs will help you become so focused and productive, 2016 won’t know what hit it!
Make it Sustainable:
Us Vermonters have always been Eco-conscious. Perhaps, it’s in the water. <–get it?
From the foam in our couches to the the foundations that prefab homes are laid on, sustainability is at the heart of anything that is being manufactured today. Our very own, EcoSmart roller and cellular shades are partially recyclable, AND energy-saving, two facts that consumers are beginning to consider when they make purchases today.
I dunno about you, but I am so jazzed for the New year!
